Figure-Ground

"Figure-ground" project represents a process of designing a composition consisting of one or two letterforms. The goal of the project was to design the most active and engaging figure-ground relationships between letterforms and the background, meaning that the attention in the process of creating a composition was concentrated on the design of the white background while moving the black letterforms.

This projects concentrates on the designing a layout activating figure-ground. The first step of the project was to design several versions of the composition consisting of one or two letterforms.

The iteration process involved repositioning of the letterforms in order to achieve harmonious relationships between the letterforms. The important part of the iteration process was to concentrate on the designing the white background while moving the black letterforms.

The final step of the project was to apply color to one of the compositions created earlier in order to change the viewer's perception of the layout. I concentrated on emphasizing the background while preserving the unity of the layout. The final images at the bottom show the most successful application of color.
